M40 #39 British manufactured MkIII ‘turtle’ shell

British manufactured MkIII ‘turtle’ shell with a stainless-steel banded edge and the chinstrap lugs/rivets located higher in the shell than the post-war MkIV

it was then primed and painted in olive-drab with a coarse textured outer surface

The third configuration seems to be for the Norwegians

The shell was cleaned back to bare metal

M40 #39 British manufactured MkIII ‘turtle’ shellM40 #39 Shell: The shell is in first class condition and is painted in blue grey with a textured outer. The maker size and lot number stamps are at the rear and read Q66 and S4409. An acceptance stamp has been applied to the inner dome though is little hard to see against the blue grey colour. Liner: The liner is a superb replacement M1931 helmet liner, with a zinc outer band and pig skin leather. The leather is ink marked as size 59 (59cm head size).
